Lois Read ­ Painting Places

Lois Read, fauculty emeritus at Hopkins School in New Haven, Connecticut, taught Art and Art Hisotry there for 25 years before retiring in 1991 to paint full-time. Read studied at Depauw University, University of Wisconsin (BS in Applied Arts), Wesleyan University (MAT), Ecole de Beaux Artes, Lacoste, France, RISD. She taught painting in Lacoste in 1979 (Cezanne country), and returned ten years later on a painting sabbatical. since 1979 she has travelled to Greece, Egypt, Italy, Germany, and London, recording her impressions in sketch-book journals. For the past five years she has wintered and painted in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

Read has exhibited in Connecticut for may years in group and single-artist shows, recieving pastel awards twice from Connecticut Women Artists. Her work , primarily responses to place she lives in, is in private collections in California, Forida, Massachesetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, as well as British Columbia, Canada and the New Haven area.
